Oscar W. Johnston Wood Sculptor

Oscar W. Johnston, born in Covina, California in 1931.  Received his degree in Art at Mt. San Antonio College before serving as an army draftsman in the Korean War.  He then worked as an engineer for ten years.  When pressures and politics of engineering became too great, he left the big city so he and his family could start a new way of life in the Northwest.  Since 1965, Oscar has had his studio and gallery in Smith River, California.  He has worked in oils, watercolors, silversmithing, photography, silkscreen, bronze, cement and stone, but primarily in wood sculpture and mostly in his favorite subject of wildlife.  Oscar's sculptures are in countless private collections throughout the world and have won awards in major exhibitions in the United States.  Oscar's sculpture is available in several galleries on the West Coast, including Shorelines Gallery in Poulsbo, WA.

Oscar passed away November 14, 2009.  He was a fantastic artist and a wonderful man.  My husband and I are honored to personally own Oscar's work.  His talent will live forever.
